When starting your wedding planning, think about writing your own wedding vows to make your day even more personal and more modern. Modern wedding vows are ones that are usually written yourself, and are not traditional in the sense of using the same format or wording as the traditional religious vows.
There are many ways that you can write these modern vows to make them stand out and be special on your big day.
1. Don't use fancy language. You can make your vows romantic and meaningful without using big words and fancy language. Keep it simple and lovely, by using the normal words you use every day and write things that you would say to your loved one.
2. Keep it short and to the point. You don't have to follow the same format as the traditional wedding vows do - that is the whole point. Make up your own format and if you just want to say 2 strong and important lines then do that.
3. You don't have to say the same sort of things that the traditional vows say either. The reason that you are writing your own vows is to say what you want to, and if this means that you add in funny bits about how you met or something that only the 2 of you understand then so be it.
4. Feel comfortable. If you want to make the vows rhyme then do that and if you want to just say something from your heart that doesn't rhyme, that is perfect too. It is your wedding day and you can do whatever you want, as long as you are comfortable and it is full of love.
5. Make it a surprise. The modern wedding vows you write do not have to be the same ones your partner says. You should write your own meaningful vows and pledge of love and your partner should write what they feel. This way it is more personal.
