The dress, the church, the flowers, the list is never ending when getting ready for a wedding. The photographer should be one of those at the top of the list. When considering a photographer for taking the wedding photos, you should be aware of the following bits of information.

The person you choose should be willing to available through the entire day. It is important for them to be there during the ceremony, however, being available during the preparation of getting dressed, following the ceremony and during the reception are all equally as important as well.

When making an appointment for your initial meeting with the photographer, request they bring samples with them. The professional should have a portfolio with previous wedding ceremonies they have worked for. Also ask which poses they will want to take at the wedding.

Do not hire the photographer over the phone and not plan a meeting until the day of the wedding. Always meet with them prior to the date of their services. You should also sign an agreement prior to the date as well.

Many professional photographers will give an amount of the photos they intend to take. If this is the case it is important that you clarify which photos are important for your album. If you would like to have a picture of you putting on your veil for example, make this clear to the photographer. You will need to find out if there are any certain rules regarding photos at the ceremony site and if so pass this information to the photographer.

You should also make the photographer aware of any specific photos you may want outside of the standard ones taken during the ceremony. You will have the option of having the wedding party photos taken before or after the ceremony. This is your decision; if you do not want to be seen in your dress until the ceremony begins then opt for pictures of the entire wedding party to be taken after the ceremony.

Hiring a photographer can be an expensive part of the wedding and the price will vary according to the photographer, the hours of service and how many pictures taken. The majority of professional photographers will request a deposit several weeks prior to the day of the wedding. There are some that will request a full payment prior to so it is important to discuss the fees required with the photographer.

If hiring a professional is out of your price range, check out one of the local community colleges. Often times they will have students that will take photos for the experience or as a class project. They are often times a lot less expensive than a professional and will do a great job because they are learning so they are eager to do it perfect.

Often times it is less expensive to hire someone to video the ceremony and have a student or friend take the photos. This is your wedding ceremony and the wedding photos will be something you will look at for years following the special day, so be cautious and choose only someone you are happy with to take the photos.
